ubuntu experience 3.4
November 24, 2010My IBM thinkpad 600E is working wonderfully in puppy linux 5.0.1 I tried installing puppy linux 5.1.1 but there had been some issues regarding the Live CD’s so I just let it hold for a while. Now for the main story, I tried to run ubuntu 10.10 on my toshiba A10 laptop and lo! it can’t run.
Ever since I did a partial upgrade of my Ubuntu 9.10 I had experienced a nagging problem which is the CPU history (CPU Usage in windows) would surge to 100% even though I didn’t open any software yet. This is because the latest release of ubuntu had dropped their support for “older” i386 processors (this includes P4). This revelation came like a slap on my face. I can’t do anything now but to look for another OS. For the meantime my toshiba is running Mepis Linux 8.0 with WinE installed. It seems to work fine but when I run window based games into it, the CPU usage would suddenly jerk up to 100%. The following candidates for my toshiba are the following:
1. Xubuntu 10.04 - the “lightest” of the mainstream ubuntu
2. Lubuntu 10.04 - an unofficial derivative of ubuntu using the LXDE platform
3. Askal 5.1 - ok please dont look at this on the web. I’m going to build it myself using puppy woof
ubuntu experience 3.3
November 2, 2010I’m still stuck on ubuntu 9.10 while the latest release is already 10.10. I wasn’t able to download the latest release since I am quite busy with my work. Also I’m starting to feel the age of my Toshiba Satellite A10 on latest releases. Im now moving to Puppy Linux and will update you on latest release
PS: I got myself an IBM Thinkpad 600E and will revive it using puppy linux. wait for updates

I can’t believe it but my last public post was made last july 2010, I also can’t believe that I have many draft articles. it’s kind of hard for me to post because unlike academe, corporate research are carefully guarded secrets. so many things to do and trainings to attend. I also have to admit that I can’t attend the Nat Con this november because of work commitment. Bye for now but I’m not keeping my fingers of my keyboards yet. But maybe someday I can be free to post many articles I’ve been writing
